Studies have indicated that there is little evidence of any damage done to the nerves of the teeth. However if there is decay in your teeth then you should consider getting the teeth restored before any teeth whitening procedures.
3. Teeth whitening can reduce the hardness of tooth enamel
Studies have indicated that Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide indeed can reduce the hardness of tooth enamel. However medical experts have countered that fruit drinks and soft drinks actually cause more damage to tooth enamel than teeth whitening bleach.
4. Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity to your teeth or gums
The most commonly side effects to Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide are tooth sensitivity and occasional irritation of the soft tissues in the oral mucosa, particularly the gums. The sensitivity is temporary and general stopsafter teeth whitening treatment has been completed.
5. Restrictions of teeth whitening
♦ Teeth whitening is not recommended in children younger than 16. Teeth whitening may cause irritation of the pulp chamberof the tooth or make it more sensitive.
♦ Pregnant or lactating women should also forgo teeth whitening. Although there are no known specificside effects, manufacturers recommend not to bleach while pregnant or during breast feeding.
♦ People who have gum disease or teeth with worn enamel should preferable avoid teeth whitening.
♦ Cavities should be treated before undergoing any whitening procedure.
